By threading the capillary wick half-way up the pot, water will be absorbed upwards into the soil and the plants roots. A consistent amount of water will be absorbed into the soil, so there isn't a worry about over or under-watering. Plants can be left alone to look after themselves for extended periods.
If the pot has not drainage holes simply cut or drill a small hole in the base of your pot.
