Use a silicon-based lubricant both on the edge of the pipe and inside the fitting to make it easier to push the pipe into the main body of the fitting. This allows for easier insertion into the pipe, past the 'O' ring, and up to the pipe stop. Using a silicone-based lubricant also protects the 'O' ring from damage when inserting the pipe.
