Divertron Pump Frequently Asked Questions & Troubleshooting

  • How do I start the Divertron pump?

Priming Cycle: The pump will perform a priming operation when it is started up which includes four priming trials of 30” (motor ON) with pauses of 3” (motor OFF).

If there is no water, the priming trial will fail and the pump will pause for an hour before trying to prime again. If this trial fails, there will be a 5 hours pause. If the lack of water continues, the pump will try to prime every 24 hours until it has picked up a prime.

Normal Operation: If during operation, the water supply is inferior to the minimum delivery for more than 40”, the pump will go into alarm, and start a priming cycle. In this case, the priming trials are made after 1, 5, and 24 hours until the pump picks up a prime.

The electronic unit also protects the pump from damages that could be caused by the blocking of the Return Valve (NRV). The protection function stops the pump automatically every hour; if no damage is detected the pump re-starts immediately. If the VNR is blocked the pump goes into alarm and stops. In this case, the pump can be re-started only after unplugging the pump and removing the obstruction to the VNR. The best working condition with the pump completely submerged in water.

  • What should I do during the first start of the Divertron pump?

After connecting the pump to the mains, the pump motor is switched off and the non-return valve is at rest. if this is not the case, the pump stops, and the motor will never start.

In normal cases, the pump should behave as follows:

    • If the hydraulic circuit upstream from the pump has a pressure higher than CUT-IN, the pump motor does not start, the priming is finished regularly.
    • If the circuit is not under pressure (P<CUT-IN), the pump motor is started.
    • If the hydraulic circuit goes under pressure (P>CUT-IN) and there is no flow, for example, because the delivery tap is closed, the motor is switched off 10 seconds after starting. The pump is primed.
    • If there is no flow or pressure for 20 seconds (P<CUT-IN), the pump goes into DRYRUN alarm and is switched off: the pump is not primed.
    • If there is flow, the pump is primed and runs normally.
  • How do I install the Divertron pump?

    • Hang the pump by passing a cord through the hole provided on the pump body. Do not hang the pump by the handle.
    • The pump has a built-in check valve on delivery, do not install check valves near the pump delivery. A distance of less than 1 meter (3.28ft) is too close to the pump.
    • We advise installing a small auxiliary tank (0.5 - 2 litres) and an additional non-return valve positioned downstream from the auxiliary tank.
    • Do not subject the motor to excessive starts per hour. It is important not to exceed more than 20 starts per hour.
    • We recommend using pipes that have a minimum diameter of 1’’ to avoid a decrease in pump performance.
    • The maximum submergible level of the pump depends on the length of the power cable: 12m (39.4 ft) in the case of a cable 15m (49.2 ft) long.
    • The pump has an air vent valve. This valve allows the pump to prime in a very short time. If the water level is lower than the valve level, some water may escape from the vent valve.
  • How do I install the Divertron pump in a tank?

Ensure the minimum dimensions for the pump passage in the collecting tank are greater than the diameter of the pump (160 mm (6.7 in)).

Secure the pump slightly higher than the bottom of the tank to reduce noise/vibration.

Regularly check sand, leaves and other debris do not obstruct the suction passages.

  • Troubleshoot – The pump does not turn on or does not stay on

A probable cause is the pump is not powered, there is no water present or the non-return valve is blocked. Check the power supply, restore the water level and remove the obstruction in the non-return valve.

  • Troubleshoot – The pump does not deliver water

The pump will not deliver water if the suction grid or pipes are blocked or the impeller is worn/blocked. To resolve, remove the blockage in the pipes or replace the impeller if required. The impeller can be cleaned by removing the inspection cap and turning the impeller to unlock it.

The pump may also not deliver water if the head required is higher than the pump’s characteristics.

  • Troubleshoot – The flow rate is insufficient

The suction grid is partly blocked or the impeller or delivery pipe is partly blocked or encrusted and requires cleaning or replacing.

  • Troubleshoot – The pump stops and is possibly tripping the thermal safety switch

Reasons why the pump may stop are, that the liquid to be pumped is too thick and overheats the motor, the water temperature may be too high, a solid body is blocking the impeller or the power supply is not in accordance with data plate values. To resolve this problem, disconnect the plug and remove the cause of the overheating. Wait for the pump to cool down before trying to reconnect the pump.
